5 Lincoln Southeast HS
Welcome to LSE!
Part of my job includes assisting with the marching band and basketball band. It is highly unlikely that you will need to sub for these groups but I am including some helpful information, just in case.
LSE Marching Knights
1st Quarter
Head band director: RJ Metteer – rmetteer@lps.org
Assistant director: Gary Shuda – gshuda@lps.org
Rehearsal time: 7:00am ~ 8:40am
Rehearsal location: If outside -practice field to the East of the school. Either on the new field turf or the NE corner of the school grounds. If inside – either in the Prasch Gym or the band room (M101).
General teaching duties: I usually teach some marching fundamentals, first thing. Depending on the time frame, I might also lead the playing warm-ups for the wind players. Drumline and colorguard usually have their own staff assigned to them. Mr. Metteer and Mr. Stroup usually try to cover attendance issues.
If you are certified in music or feel comfortable in the marching band setting, please let the other directors know. They would be happy to put you to have you help with the teaching aspects. If you have a preferred instrument, let them know. (Ex: trumpet, flute, percussion or colorguard)
If you are not certified in music or feel very out of place with marching band, please let the other directors know. There are plenty of other jobs that can be done in the morning such as attendance, helping haul equipment, running errands around the school etc.
LSE Basketball Band
2nd & 3rd Quarter
The marching band usually transitions to Basketball band or concert band mode in the month of November. The time schedule is usually the same as before however, the daily work that is done tends to change. One day might consist of working on “basketball band” music and the next might be focused on concert band music.
Sometimes I help with evening practices with the rhythm section of basketball band. Those practices are usually run by Brendon Sibley: bsibley@lps.org Those rehearsal days and times tend to vary. In the event you would need to sub for that, I would contact you directly.
Title given to the band that performs at LSE basketball games. Those not associated with LSE bands would refer to this as a pep band however we tend to put a little more effort into this group.
