1 Introduction

Mission Statement: The mission is to serve as a dedicated support system for farmers and ranchers with or without disabilities or health challenges, focusing on preventing musculoskeletal injuries. By facilitating access to assistive technologies, rehabilitation services, and educational programs focused on agricultural needs, my project ensures that these individuals can continue their work safely, with dignity, and success. It also aims to challenge and eliminate the stigma of seeking health and rehabilitation services in rural communities.

Vision Statement: The vision is to see a future where every farmer and rancher, regardless of disability or health condition, strives to thrive in their agricultural work without fear of injury or stigma. By fostering inclusive, supportive practices in agriculture, the goal is to promote resilience and well-being within Nebraska’s farming and ranching communities. This project aspires to contribute to a culture of health and safety, prioritizing the prevention of musculoskeletal injuries and ensuring sustainable, injury-free farming and ranching for all.

This capstone project was developed based on my firsthand experience working on a cattle ranch and being part of a community with a significant farming and ranching population. Through my academic training at Nebraska Wesleyan University and the University of Nebraska Medical Center, I have comprehensively understood how farmers and ranchers in Nebraska can benefit from outpatient services, particularly occupational therapy. This project aims to foster a collaborative environment that enhances occupational performance and overall well-being within a community by promoting population-level health initiatives and addressing the stigmas associated with seeking medical care.
