2 Why it Matters to Me
My experience working on a cattle ranch, coupled with my family’s history of sustaining various injuries from diverse sources while performing ranch work, has highlighted the critical need to address these challenges within this population. Injuries ranging from traumatic amputations caused by wire winders to cerebrovascular incidents occurring during routine tasks such as spraying thistles underscore the necessity for both preventive and post-operative interventions. By implementing targeted strategies, this project seeks to enhance autonomy and occupational performance, ultimately improving the long-term health and well-being of individuals engaged in agricultural labor.
I understand the stigmas that can prevent farmers and ranchers from seeking medical services for their injuries, which often stem from several factors. Many hesitate to stop working, worry about appearing “weak” by going to the doctor, or believe that clinic-based treatments can be managed at home. My goal is to help clients better understand how occupational therapy and other services can support their work by improving productivity while also addressing pain, stress, physical challenges, and mental health concerns.
