Step 3. Insert Alternate Forms of the Investigational Names

3.  Insert the the alternate form of each of the two investigational name.
One of asciminib’s four, investigational names is:
ABL-001
An investigational name is the name used by the drug’s developer before assignment of a generic name.  Investigational names are typically a group of letters followed by a hyphen or space and then a group of numbers.  Authors do not always write investigational names in the same way. A hyphen may be present, absent, or replaced by a space.

In your word document,

  • copy investigational names,
  • paste a second copy of each investigational name into your term list.
  • Make revisions to get the needed two forms of each investigational name:
    • retain the hyphen/s in one copy of each investigational name.   (This hyphenated form will retrieve records containing either a space or a hyphen). (e.g. retain the hyphen in one instance of ABL-001)
    •  delete the hyphen/s from the second copy of each investigational name. (e.g. delete the hyphen from the second instance of ABL-001, producing ABL001)

The result of this process is shown for the omacetaxine search in the screenshot below.  Omacetaxine’s investigational names are CGX-635 and NSC-141633.

A screenshot shows the addition of second forms of the two investigational names.
