1.6 Preventing Grain Entrapment

STOP! 1. Stay out if possible, 2. Never enter alone, 3. Never enter untrained, 4. Follow entry permit, 5. Shut down / lockout, 6. Secure lifeline, 7. Emergency preparednessGrain entrapment occurs when a person becomes submerged or trapped in grain, such as corn or wheat, often in storage bins or silos. This can happen rapidly and poses a serious risk of suffocation or injury, as the grain can behave like quicksand, making it difficult to escape without assistance. Grain entrapment is a significant safety concern in feedmill settings, requiring awareness and proper safety measures to prevent accidents.
