1.5 Emergency Action

Emergency Action Plan

Planning ahead in case an emergency arises will help workers know what to do and minimize a crisis event.  It is important to have an emergency action plan developed, written and posted where easily seen by workers.  The written plan requirements include:

  • Reporting Procedures
  • Procedures for Evacuation
  • Exit Routes
  • Designated personnel for critical operations / shutdown
  • Rescue Duties
  • Contact for plan details

Have your employees been trained for emergency action?

This presents a good time to include this training.

Emergency Action Plan Training

In addition to a posted emergency action plan, it is important to provide all employees with ongoing training.

Review emergency training with all employees:

  • At least annually
  • When newly assigned
  • When duties change

In addition, some employees are assigned specific duties during an emergency and receive further training in order to implement their extra duties effectively. Training for employees with specific duties includes:

  • Equipment shutdown
  • Safe evacuation
