Section 7: OER Advocacy

The OER advocate, whether at a K–12 school or a university, attempts to promote the adoption of these materials by teachers and faculty. Often, this job falls to librarians, or to centers for teaching excellence. It is also a mantle that is taken up by instructors themselves. For the last group, trying to “be the change,” it’s important to avail oneself of tools available to them through the first two groups and make the job of adopting OER for their courses more likely to come to a happy conclusion. There’s no better way for a teacher or faculty member to promote OER adoption by their colleagues than to do it well themselves and share their experience.
