19 Learning Strategies
What is it?
Learning strategies are steps that students take to learn information presented to them. Some learning strategies you may have heard before include the Pomodoro method, information retrieval, memorization, and recall.
Why is it important?
Learning strategies are important because it is beneficial to know the best way to learn new information. Implementing new learning strategies may be helpful as learning new content in graduate school may be more challenging than in past classes.
There are many different specific learning strategies, but in order to implement them successfully, there are concepts that should be considered. The book The Science of New Learning (Doyle & Zakrajsek, 2013) discusses many of these concepts.
