21 Volunteerism

What is it?

Volunteerism is chosen activities that can be done through organizations, causes, or individuals to help others (Snyder & Omoto, 2008).

Why is it important?

Volunteering is an opportunity for students to engage in activities that can provide positive opportunities for themselves and others. Students can use volunteering as an opportunity to learn new things or engage in situations that they have not previously experienced (Holdsworth, 2010). Additionally, volunteering can be motivated by a student’s desire to build their resume. Volunteering alternatively has altruistic benefits that can improve student mental health (Nichol et al., 2023).
