Toilet Positioning

Correct toileting habits:

  • Take your time approaching the rest room.
  • Lean forward, elbows can rest on knees
  • Bend knees, knees higher than hips
  • Straight back
  • Use a footstool
  • Practice deep belly breathing, breathing out your mouth
  • Relax your anal sphincter if having a bowel movement

Incorrect toileting habits:

  • Run to the rest room as fast as possible
  • Rush and strain
  • Lift your heels off the ground when sitting on the toilet
  • Hunch over
  • Cross your legs
  • Breathe as fast as you can or hold breath
  • Hover over the toilet
