This Pressbook serves as an open educational resource (OER) developed by Madeleine Hubka, OTS, under the guidance of McKenzie Behrendt, OTD, OTR/L. It was created as a component of the doctoral capstone, which is a requisite for the completion of the Occupational Therapy Program at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

Why

I developed this Pressbook as an educational resource for students, patients, and healthcare providers, highlighting the significance of holistic women’s health and wellness within the realm of occupational therapy. This particular aspect of occupational therapy is less commonly recognized, yet it plays a crucial role in addressing various challenges encountered by women, such as prenatal and postpartum issues, bladder incontinence, mental health concerns, and pelvic pain.

About me

Having personally faced similar challenges in women’s health and witnessed family and friends struggle without access to vital resources and a clear understanding of the benefits of occupational therapy, I am deeply inspired to support and empower this population through education.

My hope for you

May you find this material in this Pressbook both valuable and enjoyable. I have carefully curated this Pressbook to provide valuable and engaging content on women’s health in occupational therapy. To support diverse learning styles, I have incorporated a variety of graphics and visuals, along with learning checkpoints to reinforce key concepts. While this resource does not cover every aspect of the field, I have included links to additional websites for further exploration. My hope is to inspire and equip you—whether you are a student shaping your educational journey, a patient seeking to enhance your health literacy and understand your condition, or a provider expanding your knowledge and tools.

Thank you!
