Zoom Security to Stop All Participant Activity
Zoom has made it easier than ever to control your Zoom room in the event you have a disruptive Zoom participant in your room that you urgently need to stop from interacting with others in your course. In Zoom, use the Security panel to immediately suspend all participant activities, which will mute all video and audio, stop screen sharing, end all breakout rooms, and pause recording. You’ll find this in the Security icon in your Zoom toolbar at the bottom of the screen.
Canvas Navigation Redirect Tool
Do you want or need students to add an item to your left-hand Canvas course navigation that isn’t available in Canvas by default? Try using the Canvas Redirect Tool in the apps section of your course settings to add a link to your navigation in Canvas for the additional content. Feel free to read additional information about the Canvas Redirect Tool using the link below.
Student View – Canvas
The semester is about to start! As you finish getting your Canvas courses ready, remember you can use Student View in your course to see what students will see. You can access student view using the eyeglass icon at the top right side of each Canvas assignment and page. There are some limitations – student view does not work well to view LTI integrations, assignments/quizzes that are assigned to subsets of your students, and IP-addressed based quizzes.
Organizing Canvas Course Modules
As you get started this semester, remember to organize your Canvas course using modules and/or pages. Depending on your teaching style and your content, you could provide modules with links to content, videos, assignments, etc. as individual items in a module or you could opt for page-based content where students click into their course content and resources as they navigate through a single course page. It’s up to you, but keep it organized! A great way to do this is, in part, by creating a naming structure for your content that stays consistent through the course.
VidGrid captioning
Are you ready to help your learners by providing a text alternative (called captions) to the audio on your pre-recorded videos? Machine captioning is available for free on all videos in VidGrid when you use UNL’s subscription to VidGrid. After using the “enterprise” login in VidGrid and opening the video you want to add captions to, select the CC icon in your video toolbar then select Machine Caption under the Request tab.
UNL has also enabled the ability to search captions for keywords used in a video. Users can instantly search for keywords in the video and then jump to that location in the video. This is a great tool that everyone can use, but you must enable the feature on individuals or update the default settings for videos in your account. You can read more about enabling caption searching at the following link: https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://help.vidgrid.com/en/articles/3143023-interactive-captions__;!!PvXuogZ4sRB2p-tU!SwFxoCvCyjP9OOdrFVlnMz5eTr1wbhnNBcvbjBdeHrzAcRB6wo7SwWXoFR-6gtPB_c3BwA$
Canvas navigation settings
Canvas allows you to simplify the left-hand navigation of your Canvas courses through the Navigation Settings in each course. Carefully consider which navigation items students need in your course and eliminate the navigation items students do not need. Doing this helps reduce confusion for students. You can read more about the navigation settings at the link below
