Respondus Lockdown Browser

Respondus has a new option for remote proctoring.  The new Instructor Live Proctoring option enables instructors to use Zoom for live, remote testing.  LockDown Browser prevents cheating on the computer or device itself, while the instructor watches students via video conferencing. This mode of testing is recommended for small, synchronous classes where instructors can effectively manage and observe students during the exam.  To try out this new option, go to your Respondus settings and enable Respondus LockDown Browser.  Then, you will be able to select “Allow instructor live proctoring” in the proctoring section.  Then, you can select Zoom and create a start code.
To use this during testing, have a Zoom meeting open with your small class of students.  Ask the students to open Respondus LockDown Browser and navigate to their course and exam (at this point they will no longer be able to see you on Zoom, but they can still hear you in the background).  Read aloud the start code for them to enter when prompted.  The students will begin testing and they will remain on their webcams for you to watch until they are finished testing.  When they finish the exam in Canvas, they will return to the Zoom meeting and can exit at that time.  Reach out to amy.zachek@nebraska.edu<mailto:amy.zachek@nebraska.edu> with any questions.

Adding an event to the course calendar

Having due dates on assignments is always recommended. When due dates are added they will display in several places in Canvas as a reminder. This includes the student’s calendar.
Sometimes you might want to add an event to the calendar that might just be about a guest speaker, a reading to prep for class, or a change in the schedule.
Here are the steps to add an event to the calendar.

HTTP support is deprecated in Canvas Mobile apps

On March 1st links to unsecure websites (http: not secure) vs. (https: much more secure) will not be able to be viewed in Canvas mobile apps.
Most websites now uses an HTTPS connection but, if you have an older link that stops working, you’ll want to check the address.

Zoom Video Cleanup

Due to the growing popularity and ease of recording our Zoom meetings, we are running out of cloud storage. To ensure that necessary Zoom recordings can be made and stored this semester, we ask that users do not make unnecessary recordings and to remove any unneeded video recordings.

Please refer to the following video link on how to manage your recordings.

We’re also asking that you turn off the auto record by default. The following video shows how this can be done.

Thank you for your assistance!
