Interprofessional Collaboration

  • An occupational therapy practitioner often collaborates with an ophthalmologist or optometrist who specializes in age-related visual impairment
    • The eye care professional completes an evaluation that includes assessment of visual function
  • The eye care professional may refer to occupational therapy
    • The occupational therapist may have access to or request visual function assessments results; however, the below assessments may be completed to gather information that can guide interventions that enhance the performance of daily tasks

Visual acuity, contrast sensitivity, visual field, and reading ability are commonly affected by age-related visual impairment. Review each of the following to learn more about assessment and scoring for each.
