Assignment: Acoustic Project – audio export with album art
Create a new piece/song from scratch by first writing out a ‘pre-plan’. As you work on your piece, create journal entries (NotePad) of what you did, how you made decisions, etc.
When the piece is done, export it as an audio file (NOT a MIDI file) and add album art as well as all available meta-data (composer/artist name, genre, etc.)
SUBMISSION: (1) An m4a file with album art and complete metadata and (2) Logic Pro project with your journal in the notepad.
Acoustic Project Objectives
- Write a complete musical piece by doing pre-planning and creating a journal of your effort along the way.
- Understand and use meta-data to create digital audio files
- Creative album art to be used as a self-published piece.
- Using the “A Composition Process” as a guide, write out your “pre-plan” that you think you’ll use to write your piece.
- After starting Logic Pro, use the NotePad to ‘copy/paste your Pre-Plan.
- Work on. your piece. Each time, be sure to add a ‘time-stamp’ to the NotePad with a brief entry of what you did.
- When the song is done, use the File ➤ Share ➤ Share to Music… option. Fill in the save window with as much info as possible.
- In the Music app, with the new song selected, use the Song ➤ Info menu item.
- Use the Album Art feature to add your album art.
- Save a copy of your final piece by dragging from the Music app to your desktop.

2. Create something (the germinal idea)
3. Develop “first draft”
4. Evaluate
5. Revise? (May need to go back to #3 or 2)
6. If done, analyze for future use.

Tips for Acoustic Project (Pre-Plan & MetaData Info)
A great way to create album art is by using Keynote (for Mac) or Powerpoint (for Windows) – create a new document but first change the document dimensions to something that is square.
Add images, photos, shapes, text, etc. and when you are done, use the export feature to save your slide as an image (use .png or .jpg)

Tips for Adding Album Art to m4a files using Windows
- Start Windows Media Player.
- Click Library.
- Select images.
- Right-click and Select Advanced Tag Editor.
- Click the Picture. Click Add.
- Locate the image to be used for Album art. Click Open. Click OK.
