Description

MUSC 284 is a 3 credit Introduction to MIDI Sequencing and the use of Music Notation software as a means for digital music production. Learn how to create music for acoustic and electronic instruments while developing music reading skills thru the use of the MuseScore music notation software (open source). Assumes no music reading ability.

What You Need…

Since our focus will be learning to use traditional music notation to compose, you will need software in the category of “music notation”. All of the course examples will use an open-source (and free!) option called MuseScore. Download the software by visiting https://www.musescore.org

Minimum Hardware Requirements

MuseScore 4 requires the following:.

  • macOS 11.5 or higher
  • Windows 10 or higher

Chromebooks are NOT supported

Mobile Devices (including iOS) are NOT supported – please see https://musescore.org/en/download

Options…

While not required, if you have a MIDI keyboard that can connect to your computer, you’ll find it very useful to work on your music reading skills as well as making entering music a bit easier.
