2 Acute Care Therapy Sessions (ACTS) Program Overview for Fieldwork Educators
Level I fieldwork aims to introduce students to fieldwork, apply knowledge to practice, and develop an understanding of clients’ needs. The ACTS program is designed to provide students with a foundational experience in the acute care setting. The program was created to increase early exposure to the setting. Student learning expectations are scaled each semester to accommodate student’s progress through the coursework.
ACTS Student Learning Objectives and Expectations
- Discuss the role of occupational therapy and the value of occupation to consumers.
- Communicate with inter and intraprofessional colleagues to coordinate care and plan for discharge while analyzing sociocultural and epidemiological factors that could impact access to community resources.
- Select and implement effective assessments, occupation-based interventions, and discharge plans for select client cases of varying complexity, including those with behavioral health, psychological and social factors, in collaboration with other healthcare team members.
- Use electronic health records systems (EHR) to support the delivery of patient care.
- Adhere to AOTA Code of Ethics, privacy policies, standards of practice, and sound judgment regarding the safety of self and others.
- Demonstrate professionalism: time management, organization, self-directed learning, communication, accountability, and professional terminology.
- Understand productivity standards or volume of work expected of occupational therapy.
