Objective 5: Required Search Strategy Template

You must use the template below for your group’s search strategy figure:

Search Strategies:

1.  MeSH Search for indexed PubMed (MEDLINE) records for clinical trials.

2. Keyword search for unindexed PubMed records (PREMEDLINE, OLD MEDLINE, PMC)

3.  Keyword search for unindexed and indexed PubMed records for meta-analyses (optional)

4.  Search of ClinicalTrials.gov

5. EMBASE (optional):

6. Drugs@FDA (optional):

The following drug names were omitted from the keyword search strategies 2-4 because they were used frequently to indicate discussion of irrelevant concepts and were causing retrieval of irrelevant results:

The final heading (“The following drug names were omitted….”) is only needed if you had to remove a name your drug that had another common meaning in the English language.  For instance, “Logic” and “Tulip” are foreign brand names for drugs.  These names are used frequently in the English language for meanings that have nothing to do with any drug (let alone the drugs of interest).  Names like this should be removed from the keyword search strategies and listed under this heading.   If you didn’t have to remove any drug names because of alternate meanings, you can either type “None” under this heading, or you can remove the heading.
