Welcome to Element Stories!

This stories are the results of collaboration between chemistry and art students at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.  The authors are students in the Foundations of College Chemistry class, CHEM 1140, and the illustrators are students in the Illustration I and Graphic Design I classes, ART 2920 and ART 3130.

These stories were created with fifth and seventh graders in mind, since the Nebraska science standards have chemistry-aligned content in those grades.  However, any age will enjoy these stories and illustrations!

Each story has one or more characters based on the elements from the periodic table. The story lines weave student’s cultural heritage and/or personal experiences with the intention of re-imagining science as a field that is accessible to all.  We open the doors of science to any who might be interested since here is no such thing as a science person, believe it or not.  If you are interested in pursuing science, you will need the bravery to persist, the humility to learn, and the curiosity to discover.  There is so much you have to offer the world and if you choose to make your contribution through science we welcome you and your experiences.

We hope you enjoy these stories and their illustrations!
