13 Unconventional Heroes

Helium and Strontium

In a world not so different from our own, there existed a realm known as Elementerra. This mystical place was inhabited by beings made of the very elements that sustained their existence. Among them, there were two unique and often underestimated heroes named Helios and Strontia. Helios was the Helium Elemental, a creature of exceptional lightness, both in spirit and in substance. He embodied the very essence of helium, a gas known for its buoyancy and inability to be contained. This characteristic, however, was a double-edged sword. While he was free-spirited and jovial, it was precisely his nature that made him an unconventional hero. Then there was Strontia, the Strontium Elemental. She was extremely bright, both mentally and physically. She was carved from strontium itself, giving her all of its properties, good and bad. Her skin glows a bright red color, but most people never see it because she wears a suit that protects her from the water and air around her, because they react with her in a painful way.

One fateful day, Elementerra faced a grave threat. A menacing dark force, known as the Shadow of Desolation, began to engulf the land, bringing with it darkness, despair, and the threat of annihilation. The other elemental beings, despite their formidable powers, were unable to combat this formidable adversary. The Shadow of Desolation was dense, oppressive, and seemingly unstoppable. Desperate for a solution, the elemental council convened to discuss a way to counteract the darkness. It was Helios who proposed a daring plan. Using his helium essence, he could rise above the Shadow of Desolation, and bring Strontia to illuminate Elementerra with her radiant light. They would be the beacon of hope, a celestial torch against the creeping darkness. With unanimous support from the council, Helios picked up Strontia and they began their ascension. As they ascended higher into the sky, Helios’ body expanded, and became even lighter, like a celestial balloon, and Strontia shone even brighter. The entire realm watched in awe as they rose, for they were a shining star amidst the encroaching abyss.

As they breached the shadow’s edge, their unique traits proved invaluable. Helios floated effortlessly above, carrying Strontia who shone a brilliant red light that pierced through the darkness. The Shadow of Desolation, unable to grasp or envelope them, recoiled from her brilliance. With each passing moment, the encroaching darkness was pushed back, retreating to reveal the resplendent landscape beneath. But being a helium elemental came with its own set of challenges. Helios had to maintain a careful balance, controlling his buoyancy, and staying tethered to Elementerra. Too much ascent would cause him to drift into the unforgiving void of space, while too much descent would leave Elementerra shrouded in darkness once more. The battle between the two heros and the Shadow of Desolation raged on for days, and their endurance was tested to its limits. But the elemental beings on the ground, inspired by their courage and determination, rallied their own strengths. They used their unique elemental abilities to support them, creating elemental shields to protect our heros from the shadow’s tendrils. Slowly but steadily, the combined efforts of Helios, Strontia, and their fellow elementals began to weaken the Shadow of Desolation. As the darkness waned, the realm of Elementerra started to heal. The skies cleared, the land flourished, and the spirits of the inhabitants lifted. Finally, after a long and arduous battle, the Shadow of Desolation was vanquished. Helios descended back to Elementerra, Strontia in hand, their radiance now etched into the legends of the realm as the heros who saved the world. The elementals and the inhabitants celebrated their triumph, recognizing that sometimes the most unconventional heroes could bring about the most extraordinary victories. Helios and Strontia’s story served as a powerful reminder that one’s unique characteristics and abilities, even if unconventional, can be the key to overcoming seemingly insurmountable challenges. Helium, often associated with lightness and frivolity, and Strontium, often associated with its red glow, have proven themself as heros of immense significance, illuminating Elementerra and its inhabitants with hope and salvation.

Fun Facts

  • Helium
    • It has the lowest boiling point of all elements.
    • It escapes into space because Earth’s gravity is not strong enough to hold it.
    • Its name comes from the Greek word Helios, which means sun.
    • As a noble gas, it is non-reactive and non-flammable.
  • Strontium
    • Strontium turns yellow when exposed to air.
    • Strontium nitrate burns with a bright red flame, making it a desirable component of fireworks, signal flares and tracer bullets.
    • Strontium 90, a radioactive strontium isotope, is a product of nuclear reactions but is not found in nature.
    • Used in glow-in-the-dark paint.
