Gothic Art

THE GOTHIC PERIOD

The Gothic era began in France around 1150 and continued in some parts of Europe until the 16th century. During this era many changes occurred, including the growth of cities and the founding of universities. France played an especially important role in the development of the Gothic style. Closely associated with the French crown, the new Gothic style of architecture influenced churches throughout Europe.
