Week 1,  Aug 26-Sep 1

      1. Dr. Schmidt and Podany will cover “Introduction and Review of Course Dcouments” PDD 1002, Aug 26 at 1:00 PMSection I. Introduction and Review of Course Documents (in-person)
      1. Claim a drug for your monograph assignment (MA). Assignment MA1 (due Aug 26)
      2. Book an appointment with Cindy for Zotero training (the training itself will take 1-1.5 hour and will result in completion of the MA2 assignment)

 

 

Week 2, Sep 2- Sep 8

      1. Read Introduction to Search Operators and Search Punctuation  (20 min)
      2. Read Freely Available, Professional-level Internet Resources (20 min)
      3. Submit the the associated “Internet” assignment through Canvas (40 min, due Sep 9, 5 points)
      4. Read Freely Available, Consumer-oriented Resources (20 min)
      5. Complete the associated “Explore Consumer-Oriented Resources” assignment (20 min, not submitted for grading)
      6. Complete Final Review for Drug Information Resources Quiz (15 min)

 

Week 3, Sep 9-Sep 15

      1. Quiz: Drug Information Resources Quiz. (Timed open-note/book quiz in Canvas, 20 min,  no back-tracking.  You may take the quiz anytime between Sep 9 and Sep 16)
    • Section III.  Searching PubMed:
      1. Read Introduction to Comprehensive Searching (60 min)
      2. Read Introduction to the Final Search Assignment (includes a video)(30 min)
      3. Read Constructing a Comprehensive Keyword Search for a Drug Concept (includes a video)(60 min)
      4. Complete FSA1 Assignment and submit through Canvas. Guided by Using Martindale’s to Create a Drug Keyword Search — Tutorial (20 min, Sep 16, 3 points)

 

Week 4, Sep 16 – Sept 22

      1. Read Correcting Drug Keyword Search, watch included video, and submit associated “FSA1 corrected” assignment through Canvas (20 min, due Sep 23, 2 points)
      2. Read Constructing a comprehensive keyword search for a drug class or for a non-drug concept (includes a video)(60 min)
      3. Complete assignment guided by “Advanced Keyword Searching, Part 1 tutorial (NG administration of PPIs)(45 min, due Sep 23, 4 points)
      4. Complete FSA2 assignment guided by Advanced Keyword Searching, part II tutorial (45 min, due Sep 23, 4 points)

 

Week 5 Sep 23 -Sep 29

      1. Read Correcting FSA 2 Keyword Search, watch included video, and submit associated FSA2 corrected assignment through Canvas (60 min, Sep 30, 2 points)
      2. Read Searching PubMed with MeSH (includes a video) (60 min)
      3. Using MeSH to Search PubMed, Part I (kidney diseases caused by sirolimus)(45 min, Sep 30, 4 points)
      4. FSA 3 Assignment. Using MeSH to Search PubMed, Part II (30 min, Sep 30, 3 points)

 

Week 6, Sep 30 -Oct 6

      1. Read Correcting FSA MeSH Search (FSA 3 ) and additional MeSH Practice, watch included video, and submit associated FSA3 corrected assignment through Canvas (2 hour, due Oct 7, 2 points)
    • Section IV.  Principles and Practice of Drug Information:
      1. Watch Principles and practice of drug information video (Dr. Kjerengtroen) (60 min)

 

Week 7, Oct 7 -Oct 13

    • Section III.  Searching PubMed (cont):
      1. Read Refining Exhuastive Searches, watch included video, and submit FSA4 assignment through Canvas

 (You will need to revise your FSA 2 corrected and FSA 3 corrected assignments based on Cindy’s comments before you complete your FSA4. Your FSA4 serves as a pre-check for your 50 point FSA assignment.  ) (2 hour, due Oct 14, 2 points)

    • Section V: Review for Exam:
      1. Complete Review for Exam section of course book – includes several chapters

 

Week 8, Oct 14- Oct 20

    • Section VI:  Writing and Presenting a Monograph
      1. Read Introduction to the Monograph Assignment
      2. Read Detailed Guidelines for the Monograph Assignment
      3. Scan Example of a Correctly Formatted Assignment
      4. Read Citing Sources in Scientific Writing
      5. Read AMA 11th edition citation style
      6.  Meet with Cindy for a 1-hour Zotero training session (MA3) (1 hour, must be completed by Oct 29 — hopefully long before, 5 points)
      7. Scientific Presentation Tips (see Canvas)

 

Week 9, Oct 21-Oct 27

Study for exam, Work on Monograph Presentation or Final Search Assignment.

Week 10, Oct 28 -Nov 3

1. Proctored Exam. Oct 28, 1:00 PM – 2:50 PM PDD 1002, in person

2 and 3. Written monograph assignment and multiple-choice questions due Nov 1

Week 11, Nov 4 – Nov 5, This and remainder of the course is in-person

~ 10 of your classmates monograph oral/PowerPoint presentations (Monday, Nov 4, 50 points)

Week 12, Nov 11 – Nov 12

Quiz on Week 11 presentations (Monday, Nov 11, 25 points)

~10 of your classmates oral/PowerPoint presentations

Week 13, Nov 18 – Nov 19

Quiz on Week 12 presentations (Monday, Nov 18, 25 points)

~10 of your classmates oral/PowerPoint presentations
