1. 1. Claim a drug for your monograph assignment (MA). Assignment MA1
  2. Book an appointment with Cindy for Zotero training (the training itself will take 1-1.5 hour and will result in completion of the MA2 assignment)

- Section II. Using Drug Information Resources (online, asynchronous):
  1. Read Virtual Tour (5 min)
  2. Read Major Online Drug Information Resources. (20 min)
  3. Complete Major Online Drug Information Resources Tutorial and submit the associated assignment through Canvas (40 min, due Aug 27, 4 points)
  4. Read Additional Tertiary Resources (60 min) and
  5. submit the “Tertiary Resources” assignment through Canvas (60 min, due Aug 27, 5 points)

Week 2, Aug 28-Sep 3

1. 1. Read Introduction to Search Operators and Search Punctuation (20 min)
  2. Read Freely Available, Professional-level Internet Resources (20 min)
  3. Submit the the associated “Internet” assignment through Canvas (40 min, due Sep 3, 5 points)
  4. Read Freely Available, Consumer-oriented Resources (20 min)
  5. Complete the associated “Explore Consumer-Oriented Resources” assignment (20 min, not submitted for grading)
  6. Complete Final Review for Drug Information Resources Quiz (15 min)

Week 3, Sep 4 -Sep 10

1. 1. Quiz: Drug Information Resources Quiz. (Timed open-note/book quiz in Canvas, 20 min, no back-tracking. You may take the quiz anytime between Sep 4 and Sep 10)

  3. Read Constructing a Comprehensive Keyword Search for a Drug Concept (includes a video)(60 min)
  4. Complete FSA1 Assignment and submit through Canvas. Guided by Using Martindale’s to Create a Drug Keyword Search — Tutorial (20 min, Sep 10, 3 points)

Week 4, Sep 11 – Sept 17

1. 1. Read Correcting Drug Keyword Search, watch included video, and submit associated “FSA1 corrected” assignment through Canvas (20 min, due Sep 17, 2 points)
  2. Read Constructing a comprehensive keyword search for a drug class or for a non-drug concept (includes a video)(60 min)
  3. Complete assignment guided by “Advanced Keyword Searching, Part 1 tutorial (NG administration of PPIs)(45 min, due Sep 17, 4 points)
  4. Complete FSA2 assignment guided by Advanced Keyword Searching, part II tutorial (45 min, due Sep 17, 4 points)

Week 5 Sep 18 -Sep 24

1. 1. Read Correcting FSA 2 Keyword Search, watch included video, and submit associated FSA2 corrected assignment through Canvas (60 min, Sep 24, 2 points)
  2. Read Searching PubMed with MeSH (includes a video) (60 min)
  3. Using MeSH to Search PubMed, Part I (kidney diseases caused by sirolimus)(45 min, Sep 24, 4 points)
  4. FSA 3 Assignment. Using MeSH to Search PubMed, Part II (30 min, Sep 24, 3 points)

Week 6, Sep 25 -Oct 1

1. 1. Read Correcting FSA MeSH Search (FSA 3 ) and additional MeSH Practice, watch included video, and submit associated FSA3 corrected assignment through Canvas (2 hour, due Oct 1, 2 points)

- Section IV. Principles and Practice of Drug Information:

Week 7, Oct 2 -Oct 8

- Section III. Searching PubMed (cont):

1. 1. Read Refining Exhuastive Searches, watch included video, and submit FSA4 assignment through Canvas

(You will need to revise your FSA 2 corrected and FSA 3 corrected assignments based on Cindy’s comments before you complete your FSA4. Your FSA4 serves as a pre-check for your 50 point FSA assignment. ) (2 hour, due Oct 8, 2 points)

- Section V: Review for Exam:

Week 8, Oct 9- Oct 15

- Section VI: Writing and Presenting a Monograph

1. 1. Read Introduction to the Monograph Assignment
  2. Read Detailed Guidelines for the Monograph Assignment.
  3. Scan Example of a Correctly Formatted Assignment
  4. Read Citing Sources in Scientific Writing
  5. Read AMA 11th edition citation style
  6. Meet with Cindy for a 1-hour Zotero training session (MA3) (1 hour, must be completed by Oct 27 — hopefully long before, 5 points)
  7. Scientific Presentation Tips (see Canvas)

Week 9, Oct 16-Oct 22

Study for exam, Work on Monograph Presentation or Final Search Assignment.

Week 10, Oct 23 -Oct 29

1. Proctored Exam. Oct 23, 1:00 PM – 2:50 PM PDD 1002, in person

2 and 3. Written monograph assignment and multiple-choice questions due Oct 27

Week 11, Oct 30 – Oct 31, This and remainder of the course is in-person

~ 10 of your classmates monograph oral/PowerPoint presentations (Monday, Oct 31, 50 points)

Week 12, Nov 6 – Nov 7

Quiz on Week 11 presentations (Monday, Nov 6, 25 points)
