Turnitin is a web-based software application, fully integrated into our Canvas system. It allows students and faculty to check for unoriginal material in papers, homework, lab reports, etc. The service provides users with tools to teach research skills while also encouraging academic integrity. All UNL instructors have access to Turnitin which is free to use in Canvas and are encouraged to do so not merely as a policing tool, but part of a thoughtful approach to fostering academic integrity. Together with well-designed assignments and effective communications between the student and instructor, Turnitin can play a valuable role in educating our students and emphasizing the importance of academic integrity. There is a Turnitin LTI and Framework option. We recommend using the Turnitin Framework option. Turnitin offers a text-only report for accessibility and ensures that personally-identifiable information remains private to ensure cyber security.
